Exploring live-in relationships in modern Indian society

Author(s): N. Pautunthang

Abstract: This paper explores the dynamics surrounding live-in relationships in Metropolitan India. It starts with exploring how societal changes influence the frequency of these relationships. The paper utilises secondary data sources such as research articles, newspaper reports and video discussions to gather information. Individuals opt for live-in relationships due to urbanisation, modernisation, and a rehearsal for married life. Landmark court cases and legal developments played a significant role in influencing the recognition of live-in relationships. Challenges and controversies, such as societal acceptance and gender biases, pose significant issues in the context of live-in relationships. The paper underscores the evolving attitudes towards live-in relationships, the necessity for tailored legislation, and the significance of respecting individual relationship choices. Overall, the paper offers insights into the complexities and nuances surrounding live-in relationships in the urban landscape of India.
